We are extremely excited to announce that the Brotherhood has started a new initiative to foster stronger connections with the Jewish community in Turkey. This past week, I had the privilege to visit the community in Istanbul along with 3 members of the Brotherhood Central Council and we had an incredible visit. The purpose of this six-day trip was to connect with our roots, our culture, and our traditions in order to strengthen our community in the United States.
The Jewish community in Turkey gave us incredible inspiration. It is active and largely engaged. Their leadership is caring and the members of the community are warm and loving. They very much reminded us of our parents and grandparents.
From the Ladino language, the Sephardic cuisine, the traditional hazzanut, and more, the Turkish Jewish flame has reinvigorated our commitment to maintain our special heritage. I sincerely believe that as we build closer relationships with the Turkish Jewish community, we will help grow and reignite the flame in our community in the United States.
In the coming weeks, this newsletter will include highlights from our amazing trip as well as resources to help you connect with your Sephardic heritage and the beautiful Jewish community in Turkey.
