The largest benevolent Sephardic organization of its kind in the United States,The Sephardic Brotherhood of America visited İstanbul during the Hanukkah Holiday between 21-27th December 2016. The Sephardic Jewish Center of Forest Hills,Kehila Kedosha Janina Synagogue and Museum,The Sephardic Jewish Center of Canarsie,The Sephardic Temple of Cedarhurst and the Mikdash Eliyahu Synagogues presidents and representatives were present during the visit under the leadership of Rav Nessim Elnekave.
During our interview with Rav Nissim, he expressed his warmer feelings about the Turkey Jewish Community which he found very dynamic,vibrant and challenging due to the needs of the today’s world. The group visited the Neve Shalom Synagogue,The Etz Ahayim Synagogue in Ortaköy,The Jewish School,The Chief Rabbinate of Turkey,The Old Age Home and other Jewish institutions. They also participated in the Hanukkah Ceremony which was held in Esma Sultan Palace. On Monday, the group also did a Jewish Heritage and local attractions tour organized by Turkey Jewish Heritage.It was decided during their visit to develop the relations between The Sephardic Brotherhood of America and Turkey Jewish Community for future projects.
